One more Hindu temple set ablaze in Bangladesh’s Dhaka
Amid ongoing violence in Bangladesh, the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh continues with yet another Hindu temple set ablaze in Dhaka.
“Another the ISKCON Namhatta Centre burned down in Bangladesh. The Deities of Sri Sri Laxmi Narayan and all items inside the temple, were burned down completely,” wrote Radharamn Das, spokesperson for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Kolkata.
According to Das, some miscreants set fire to deities around 2-3 am on Saturday.
He further informed that the temple is located in Dhour village, under the jurisdiction of Turag Police Station, Dhaka district. The fire was initiated by lifting the tin roof at the back of the temple and using petrol or octane.
Das stated that attacks are ongoing, and despite ISKCON bringing the issue to the attention of Bangladesh's interim government, the police and administration have done little to address their concerns or alleviate their grievances.
Under the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, there have been consistent attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, particularly on Hindus. The increasing incidents of violence against Hindus have sparked protests in India.
The situation worsened after the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, associated with ISKCON. Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called for the deployment of United Nations peacekeepers in Bangladesh.
