Fresh military tensions erupted in the Gulf after Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait, prompting a second round of US airstrikes ordered by President Donald Trump and raising fears that the recently agreed ceasefire could collapse.

Attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait

Bahrain's Foreign Ministry said several Iranian drones targeted the country on Saturday, describing the attack as a serious threat to the safety of citizens and residents. No immediate damage was reported.

Hours later, Kuwait's military said its air defence systems intercepted incoming Iranian drones and missiles following the latest US operation, though authorities did not report any casualties or destruction.

US CENTCOM attacks

The attacks came after the United States carried out fresh strikes on multiple Iranian military installations. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defence sites, drone storage facilities and minelayer capabilities.

President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes in a social media post, saying US forces had targeted Iranian missile and drone storage locations as well as coastal radar sites after accusing Tehran of violating the ceasefire agreement once again. He also warned that Washington could escalate its military response further if the attacks continued.

CENTCOM said the latest operation followed an alleged Iranian drone strike on the Panama-flagged oil tanker ‘Kiku’, which was carrying crude oil for Qatar's state-run energy company while sailing near the Strait of Hormuz. The US military said Iran had been given an opportunity to honour the ceasefire but instead chose to attack the commercial vessel.

Ship-tracking data indicated that the tanker had departed a Qatari oil field and was heading towards a port in the United Arab Emirates using a maritime route established near the Omani coast as an alternative to waters controlled by Iran.

Iran’s action

Meanwhile, Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it had targeted several locations linked to the “US terrorist army” in the region, though it did not specify the sites. Iranian state television also reported explosions in an area north of the Strait of Hormuz.

The renewed exchange of attacks comes despite an interim agreement aimed at halting hostilities between the United States and Iran, with the latest developments signalling fresh instability across the Gulf region.
