London climate event cancelled over soaring temperatures

An event in central London about dealing with extreme heat has reportedly been cancelled because of the ongoing heatwave. The event was part of London Climate Action Week and was planned to take place at the London School of Economics.

It was going to focus on how countries and cities can prepare for rising temperatures. However, as per reports, organisers cancelled it because the building does not have air conditioning or any other cooling system.

The Met Office has issued a red warning for extreme heat in London and many parts of England until late Thursday. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 37°C. As per reports, the organisers said they did not want to put the health and safety of people attending the event at risk. They also said that better planning and stronger climate action are needed to deal with future heatwaves.

 The heatwave has also affected daily life across southern England. Hundreds of schools have closed fully or partly because of the high temperatures, as per reports.

Transport for London warned that Tube, London Overground and Elizabeth line services could face delays due to the heat. Network Rail also said high temperatures could affect railway tracks, power lines and signalling equipment. People have been advised to travel only if necessary in red warning areas and to drink plenty of water to stay safe.
