Amid the festivities, outsourced Gujarat Tourism employees working at Vadnagar tourism site alleged no payment of salary for the past two months. The tourism department has neglected frequent complaints about unpaid salaries of employees.
200 employees face difficulties
Outsourced employees like supervisors, guards, guides, sweepers, and hotel staff working at historical sites such as the theme park, Sharmishtha Lake, walkway, Buddhist Monastery, Kirti Toran, Lateri Vav, and Tanariri Garden in Vadnagar have not been paid since August 2024.
According to sources, the outsourcing agency has not received a grant for five months, which is why salaries have not been paid for August and September.
Employees claim that not paying salaries through outsourcing agencies is an ongoing issue. When they raised this issue with the Tourism Department of Gujarat, they were told the matter was not their responsibility and that they should contact the agency.
However, the Tourism Department hasn’t issued a show-cause notice to the agency or demanded an explanation about the unpaid wages.
This comes ahead of Diwali, when all the tourist attractions will be bustling with travellers and visitors at PM Modi’s birthplace.
