Gujarat has no takers among corporates to maintain historical sites

Updated: Sep 30th, 2024

National sites of historical significance are maintained by corporates, including the Red Fort. However, the same initiative has met with little or no success in Gujarat. None of the 19 selected sites, including Rani Ki Vav, Modhera Sun Temple, Champaner, and Junagadh, have found corporate sponsors.

The tourism department in Gujarat had formulated an adoption plan to ensure the maintenance, cleanliness, and provision of amenities at these historical sites. However, despite formal requests, corporate companies in Gujarat showed no interest in participating.

This lack of interest from the corporate sector is particularly concerning given the deteriorating condition of many of these historical sites. Tourists often find inadequate facilities and a lack of maintenance at some of these locations.

The failure of the adoption plan is a setback for Gujarat’s tourism industry, which has been actively promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage.

While the tourism department makes grand announcements, the implementation of initiatives to attract tourists to these historical sites seems to be lacking.
