USAID project to pave the sustainable Path for Ahmedabad’s transition

Ahmedabad is one of the six cities selected by USAID under the South Asia Regional Energy Project

Updated: Mar 9th, 2024

Ahmedabad is set to get a comprehensive sustainable roadmap and action plan under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

All the funding for this initiative will be provided by USAID, easing the financial burden on the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The implementation of the project will be carried out by ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives- now Local Governments for Sustainability) South Asia, a network driving sustainable urban development worldwide.

It has been proposed to organise a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the essential arrangements for sustainable energy transition by the municipal corporation until September 2025.

Ahmedabad is one of the six cities selected by USAID under the South Asia Regional Energy Project.

The organisation will provide technical assistance in preparing a sustainable energy action plan for the AMC under this project.

AMC will initiate feasibility studies on transport, including electric mobility, through a renewable energy transition action plan. Necessary training and capacity building, as well as bankable project preparation, will be done for various departments and stakeholders interested in sustainable transition issues.

The AMC provides support for project information notes and applications for gap funds and various funding opportunities for various identified projects for sustainable energy transition.
