Urban facelift for Gujarat: ₹1,416 allocated to municipal bodies

Gujarat government has allocated ₹1,416 cr for development works in urban areas and cities of the state. Out of this, ₹471.61 cr has been allocated for works in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, and Surat metropolitans.
₹283.27 cr has been approved for the works of Underground Sewerage Scheme Phase-2 in nine municipalities.
Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been allocated ₹83.5 cr for infrastructure and development works in the outgrowth area. These works include storm network development in Basan, Dholakuva, Pethapur, Randheja, Kolavada, Vavol, and Vasana Hadmatiya and various TP (town planning) areas, as well as the construction of an 80-metre road in Raysan, along with a drainage lifting station in TP-9.
In addition, ₹17.5 cr has been allocated for development works including the construction of an 80-metre road from PDEU (Pandit Deendayal Energy University) crossroad to GIFT City in the outgrowth area.
Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been allocated ₹180.64 cr for a total of 789 development works under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana) for cement concrete road, stormwater drainage, and paver plaster.
Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) has been allocated ₹177.97 cr for various development works. This includes ₹115 cr for the construction of two flyovers at Theba Circle and Samarpan circle, ₹1.97 cr for CNG bus operation, and ₹61 cr for an auditorium, sports complex, smart library in schools run by the district primary education department, and well-equipped library in the city.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been allocated ₹12 cr for the construction of corporation-run cattle sheds under phase 2 for the cattle control project.
Urban development projects
Three urban development authorities, Ahmedabad (AUDA), Surat (SUDA), and Rajkot (RUDA), have also been allocated ₹483.30 cr to undertake various development works under this scheme.
AUDA has been allocated ₹451.26 cr for infrastructure development works such as sewerage networks, and water supply facilities in Mahemdavad, Dehgam, and Sanand municipalities.
₹256.93 cr has been approved under the Gujarat Urban Development Authority (GUDC) for Vijapur, Chhota Udepur, Petlad, Savarkundla, Padra, and Radhanpur municipalities. Moreover, Lunawada, Kheda, and Halvad municipalities have been approved ₹26.34 cr.
Mansa, Palanpur, Padra, Babra, Veraval Patan, Kathlal, Nakhatrana, Waghodia, Amreli, Mandvi (Kutch), Vadnagar, and Savarkundla have been given ₹75 cr for various works.
Under the ‘Urban Roads’ scheme, a grant has been allocated to all 157 municipalities in the state to improve road facilities. This grant will be used for road resurfacing, thermoplastic road paint, kerb paint, street light boards, and road safety works.
