Unseasonal rains grapple Gujarat, mangoes in danger

Due to the average cold temperature in Valsad this year, fewer mangoes were seen in the mango orchards

As Gujarat is set to host its unbearable summers, a series of unseasonal rain is likely to put the crops in danger.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning across 18 districts of Gujarat for the next two days as two cyclonic circulation systems become active simultaneously in Gujarat.

Western areas of Ahmedabad received rainfall at around 3.45 p.m. today.


Areas of Kutch district, such as Mundra and Bhuj, received light rainfall in the morning today. A few areas of Saurashtra, including Rajkot and Jamnagar, witnessed cloudy weather and light rain.

Light to moderate rain is possible in Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Dwarka, Morbi, Gir Somnath, and Kutch today.

On Mar 3, light to moderate rain is possible in Vadodara, Chhota Udaipur, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Kutch.

Gujarat’s beloved mangoes in danger

As the threat of unseasonal rains looms large, a wave of anxiety washes over mango south Gujarat’s farmers, casting a shadow of potential devastation on their precious crops in 45,000+ hectares.

Moreover, due to the average cold temperature in Valsad this year, fewer mangoes were seen in the mango orchards.

Ahmedabad weather check

With a nip in the air in Ahmedabad, the Met department forecasts light rain showers in the city today. For the next three days, Ahmedabad will witness an increased temperature of up to 14°C.

The city’s maximum temperature today stands at 32°C, which is 3°C less than on Mar 1.

For the next three days, Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature could go as high as 34°C. 

During the night, the temperature is likely to hover around 21°C.

While the Met department forecasts unseasonal light showers today, the second week of March 2024 will witness soaring temperatures in Ahmedabad.
