In a shocking incident at the Shardaben Hospital in Ahmedabad’s Saraspur, a father strangled his five-month-old daughter to death on Feb 28. According to reports, he was unhappy with the girl child, and had already tried to murder the child before.
The accused, Ansar Ahmed, had visited the hospital with his wife, Kureshabanu Ansari, and their five-month-old, as Kureshabanu was called to the hospital for a medical procedure after her caesarean surgery.
At around 10:30 a.m., they visited the hospital, and the wife was called for a sonogram at 11 a.m. She handed over the child to Ansar and went for the procedure.
People at the hospital saw Ansar strangling the child as she was crying profusely, and intervened to rescue her. The child was taken to the children’s ward in the hospital. However, as it turned out, it was too late to save her.
Kureshabanu, having done her procedure, called her husband when she did not find the father-daughter duo. The call was received by an unknown person who asked her to reach the police desk of the hospital. From there, she was taken to the children’s ward, only to find out that her daughter was no more.
In this regard, a case was filed at the Shaher Kotda police station, and the accused was arrested.
The complaint from the wife mentioned that the accused had attempted to kill the daughter before this, too, when she was two-and-a-half months old. However, the wife had reconciled when the accused apologised for his deeds.
25-year-old Kureshabanu Ansari of Gomtipur was married to Ansar Ahmed in 2020. On Oct 19, 2023, she gave birth to a daughter. However, Ansar was not happy with the birth of his daughter and even used to beat the infant, according to reports.
