UGC introduces new guidelines in non-technical courses
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced new guidelines that will help non-technical degree and diploma courses to get apprenticeship and stipend opportunities. This initiative aims to improve employment of students after completion of the graduation.
Earlier, apprenticeship programs were only compulsory for technical courses. But, the new guidelines also give opportunities to students pursuing non-technical disciplines, like BCom, BSc, and other vocational courses.
According to the draft guidelines, students enrolled in three-year UGC-approved programs will be required to complete a minimum of one year of apprenticeship.
This apprenticeship program is set to commence in Jan-Feb 2025.
Students will receive stipends funded either by the industry or through the government for the students registered under the National portal.
UGC officials have said that universities will be required to collaborate with industries to develop detailed plans outlining how apprenticeships will be integrated into their curriculum.
A final announcement will be made after the completion of draft guidelines.
