As the world celebrates International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples 2024 (World Tribal Day) today, two tribals were allegedly lynched by six people at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia on August 6.
The tribals were beaten to death on suspicion of theft at the under-construction ‘Tribal Museum’ site, as per reports.
The deceased have been identified as Jayesh Tadvi and Sanjay Tadvi.
The dying declaration of one of the victims suggested that they stole some metal scrap to sell before being caught, tied, and beaten mercilessly, it was reported.
The victim died during treatment at Civil Hospital in Rajpipla.
Dediapada AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava in a social media post said the victims were beaten up with iron rods.
Vasava told reporters, “Why so much hate against our people? Thousands of Adivasis will protest if justice is not served. We will also announce a ‘bandh’ in the Kevadia area. We will not accept the bodies until we get justice.”
Vasava has demanded that the owner of the construction agency be named in the FIR, along with the six workers. He has also sought evidence of the deceased being thieves.
Narmada police have arrested six people involved in the incident.
