Updated: Oct 1st, 2024
Two individuals were arrested today in Botad for attempting to derail a passenger train with the intent to rob passengers. The incident occurred near Kundali village in Botad district, where four-foot iron rods were placed on the tracks to derail the train.
The Okha-Bhavnagar passenger train was passing through the area when it hit the iron rods, causing the train to halt immediately. Fortunately, no passengers were injured during the incident.
Following the incident, the Botad district Superintendent of Police (SP), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), and a railway team arrived at the scene. They discovered the iron rods on the tracks and initiated an investigation. The suspects — Ramesh Saliya and Jayesh Bavaliya of Alau village in Ranpur — were apprehended with the help of a dog squad and drones.
The two individuals had previously attempted to derail a train on November 25, 2023. Upon questioning, they revealed that they had watched a video on YouTube and planned the robbery based on video.
Their plan was to derail the train and rob the passengers as they fell out.
