Two class 12 exams to be taken by Gujarat board, but there’s a twist

Updated: Dec 29th, 2023

The central government has already announced two board exams for classes 10 and 12 in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Following that, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) also announced two board exams.

However, for Gujarat, according to the latest development, the two exams for class 12 would not be equal. According to GSEB, the first exam, which will be held in March, will be considered a ‘main’ board exam, whereas the second one, in June-July, will be considered ‘supplementary’.

Only those who have filled out the form for the ‘main’ examination in March would be allowed to appear in the ‘supplementary’ exams. Moreover, a student can only appear for the supplementary examinations for the subjects he/she had failed or wants to improve the scores.

In short, for a particular student, the supplementary exam would not require an appearance in every subject.

There will be, however, a separate form for the supplementary exam. This form should be filled only from the school from where the student had filled the form for the main exam.

New rules dictate that the supplementary exam for class 10 will be held for two subjects, three subjects for class 12 (commerce), and all the subjects for class 12 (science).

Supplementary practical examinations for class 12 (science) will only be held for the main three subjects, and only for the students who have not cleared or were absent in the main practical exams.

For class 12 (science), after the supplementary examination, there will be only rechecking, and not reassessment in person. The reassessment in person will be allowed only after the main examination.
