Mehsana police arrest three over death of 9 workers at construction site

An engineer, a contractor, and a labour contractor were apprehended by the police over the death of none persons at Jasalpur village, near Kadi in Mehsana. Nine workers were buried alive after a mound of soil caved in at a construction site on October 12.

At Stellinox Stainless Pvt Ltd, construction work was ongoing, but no steps were taken to avert soil erosion, no support or wood scaffolding was provided. As a result, a mound of soil collapsed, burying the labourers working at the site.

The site also lacked security measures. For acting irresponsibly, the police have arrested engineer Kaushik Parmar, contractor Jayesh Doshi, and labour contractor Dinesh Bhuriya.

What happened?

On October 12, 10 workers were buried alive after a mound of soil caved in at a construction site in Jasalpur village, near Kadi in Mehsana. The workers were digging a pit for an underground tank at a factory site when the soil suddenly collapsed, trapping them. A JCB excavator was brought in to rescue the workers.

One of the workers escaped on his own before the fire team arrived, while 9 others died.
