Eight workers buried alive at construction site at Jasalpur village in Mehsana
Eight workers were buried alive after a mound of soil caved in at a construction site at Jasalpur village, near Kadi town in Mehsana. The workers were digging a pit for an underground tank at a factory site when the soil suddenly collapsed, burying them alive. A JCB excavator was brought in to pull out the other workers.
As per initial report by Police Inspector Prahalad Vaghela of Kadi police station said, “Till now, five bodies have been recovered. We don’t know the exact number of people buried.”
Later, as the rescue operation was underway, a Mehsana fire department official said that eight bodies were recovered by the Mehsana and Kadi fire teams. Ten workers were buried in the accident, of which one of them escaped on his own before the fire team arrived, while a search is on to recover one more body.
Jayesh Khadi, chief fire officer of Ahmedabad, mentioned, “Right now, the regional fire department team is handling the operation. We haven’t been asked for any help yet, but we are ready.”
Earlier in August a family died in a clay factory at Bhuj, when a 10-year-boy got trapped in a conveyor belt leading to chaos with two others, the 10-year-old's father and uncle, also got stuck in the conveyor belt while saving the boy which led to a death of three persons.
