Surrender one connection if you have both PNG, LPG: Gujarat govt

Amid concerns over LPG availability, Gujarat Food and Civil Supplies Principal Secretary Mona Khandhar said the government is coordinating with gas companies and the Centre to ensure essential supply and prevent disruptions.
Addressing the situation, Khandhar said that in areas where the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network is available, priority is being given to PNG connections as per instructions from the Government of India. She added that gas companies are being asked to expand new PNG connections and Gujarat is simultaneously increasing buffer stock to manage demand.
“Gujarat already has a strong PNG network and essential sectors are being covered within the prescribed 20% limit,” Khandhar said. She added that social institutions such as old-age homes and orphanages will get adequate supply.
As per central guidelines, individuals cannot hold both PNG and LPG connections simultaneously. “If both exist, one connection will have to be surrendered. Companies are currently matching data to identify such cases,” the IAS officer said.
To address the shortage, the Centre has allocated additional kerosene supply to the state. Khandhar said Gujarat has been allotted 1,452 kilolitres of kerosene, which will be distributed in limited quantities of up to five litres per person based on requirement, alongside LPG arrangements.
The state government has also deployed monitoring teams to regulate distribution. A revenue official and a police personnel have been stationed at each distribution point, while district and state-level teams are continuously monitoring LPG agencies.
She further said the government has launched an LPG helpline 1800 233 0022 for consumers facing issues with domestic gas supply.
Khandhar appealed to citizens to remain calm and cooperate. “People should exercise patience and understanding while the government continues efforts to ensure a smooth supply of domestic LPG,” she said.
