Updated: Oct 3rd, 2024
Police have arrested a woman for submitting a bogus caste certificate for the job of Assistant Engineer Class 2 in Gandhinagar-based Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpsar Department. A complaint was filed with the Athwalines police by the Social Welfare Department.
Police also questioned her father as the candidate was unaware of her father’s disputed LC, which was presented for the caste certificate.
Jitendra Chauhan, social welfare officer in charge of the district directorate office in Nanpura Bahumali Building, received a letter from Narmada Water resources Department, Gandhinagar, seeking verification of the Hindu Khatik caste certificate of 25-year-old Rekha Shantilal Khatik of Dabholi, before her appointment as Assistant Engineer (Civil) Class 2.
The Social Welfare Department started the verification of the documents submitted for the caste certificate.
The school leaving certificate (LC) presented for Rekha was found to be authentic. However, her father’s LC was registered in someone else’s name.
Instead of Shantilal, the general register number of the LC was associated with one Ajitsinh Wala.
Moreover, as per rules, government proofs of original residents of Gujarat before 1978 have to be submitted for the caste certificate. The name associated in that document was of Khima Shankar, a resident of Devgadh of Surat’s Mandvi Taluka. ‘Khatik’ and ‘Kalubha’ were added later in the document.
Based on the findings, the Athwalines police arrested Rekha after filing a complaint with the social welfare department for submitting a false caste certificate to get a government job.
In the preliminary interrogation, Rekha revealed that she was unaware of the bogus LC provided by her father, prompting police to question the father, too.
