Surat man slits wife’s throat in presence of children
A domestic dispute over the employment of a husband led to the death of the wife as the husband slit her throat in the presence of their sleeping children in Surat.
Jaysukh Vaniya, a Surat resident and an alleged alcoholic, killed his wife Namrata after an argument.
Severely injured Namrata was rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead. The police have since arrested the husband.
The family, originally from the Amreli district, lived in Surat. The deceased, 35-year-old Namrata, lived with husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, and two daughters aged eight and three.
The incident came to light when the elder daughter found her mother in the pool of blood.
According to the family, Jaysukh occasionally worked as a labourer but mostly stayed unemployed. Namrata, on the other hand, supported the family financially by selling sarees and other traditional clothes. Arguments over Jaysukh’s lack of work were frequent among the couple.
On the night of the incident, Jaysukh was allegedly intoxicated. When the police were informed of the crime, they arrested him and initiated legal proceedings.
