Surat girl takes own life over alleged pressure from school for fees
A Class 8 girl in Surat died by suicide on Monday evening by hanging herself from a fan.
The family, native to Rajasthan, alleged that the school was responsible for the suicide, stating that the girl had taken this drastic step due to the school teachers asking her to stand outside the class near the washroom due to non-payment of fees.
The family had assured that they would pay the fees in 2-3 days, but still, the teachers had allegedly asked the girl to stand outside the class.
Due to fear of punishment, the girl then denied going to school and was staying at home. When on Monday evening she hung herself from a fan in her house with a dupatta, as per reports.
The police have started an investigation into the matter, and the school has denied these allegations made by the family members of the deceased.
After this incident, the Ahmedabad District Education Office has informed schools not to pressure students for fees.
The schools have been sent a circular and have been asked to strictly follow the circular and not to pressure students for the same.
