Surat forest officer files complaint against husband for affair, in-laws for casteism

A complaint under the Atrocity Act has been registered at the Adajan police station against a Surat RTO inspector and his parents. The inspector was allegedly caught red-handed having an extramarital affair.
Sonal Solanki, 32, working as a Range Forest Officer in the Surat Forest Department, got married to Nikunj Goswami (age 33, resident of Adajan), who was then working as an RTO inspector in Vathai, Navsari, in May 2020.
After the marriage, they moved to Surat in 2021 and had a son. After moving to Surat, the mother-in-law and father-in-law of the complainant, who had come to live with her, allegedly abused casteist slurs at her, and Nikunj forcibly transferred ₹4 lakh from Sonal’s account to his own account.
In 2024, the complainant found out that Nikunj was having an affair with a girl named Deepika Goswami, she checked Nikunj’s mobile and reprimanded him. When the extramarital affair was exposed in front of his wife, Nikunj allegedly beat Sonal and the matter reached the Adajan police station.
Although Nikunj wrote an apology letter and reconciled, he continued to torture Sonal, as per the complaint, and kicked her out of the house with her son.
Sonal, upset by her husband’s extramarital affair, filed a complaint with the women’s police, and under counselling, it was decided that the husband and wife would live in separate houses, but they only lived together for a month.
