Strict action for work stalled without reason, Gujarat govt warns its officials

Have you ever walked into a government office and had your work done in just one visit? Probably not! But that might change soon. The Government of Gujarat has issued a new order – if any application remains pending without a valid reason, the responsible officer will face strict action.
Many citizens have alleged that government officers only work when bribed, and if not, even simple tasks require multiple visits, causing unnecessary delays and wasting people’s time.
This issue was also raised during the recent Gujarat Assembly session, where Congress MLA Kirit Patel stated that his file was stuck and he was told that it had 20 pending issues. However, as soon as he paid a bribe, his file was cleared.
He further claimed that most government offices function in a similar manner, and officers do not pay attention to citizens’ concerns.
Interestingly, even a ruling BJP MLA reportedly admitted in the assembly that government officers do not work efficiently.
Following these revelations, the state government has issued notices to all government offices, warning that if any applications remain pending and unresolved, the responsible officer will face strict action.
