An officer of the State Intelligence Bureau was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe during a trap laid by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Gandhinagar’s Sargasan on March 15.

The accused, identified as Ketan Girishbhai Dave, a Senior Intelligence Officer posted at the Sanand centre, had allegedly demanded ₹80,000 from a complainant in exchange for giving a favourable report to renew police protection granted to the individual.

According to officials, the complainant had previously been provided police protection and had submitted a formal application seeking its extension. During the processing of the application, Dave allegedly demanded money to submit a positive review on the renewal request.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB set up a trap in the Sargasan area of Gandhinagar. Investigators said the complainant was waiting in his car near Saurashtra Gathiya Rath at Sargasan Chowkdi when Dave arrived at the location.

Police said the accused entered the vehicle and held a brief conversation with the complainant before accepting the bribe amount. As soon as he took the ₹80,000, ACB officials who were keeping watch moved in and caught him in the act.

Sources said Dave was reportedly in line for promotion to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police, with his name placed second in the merit list.

Officials added that Dave resides with his family in a residential society in the TP-9 area of Sargasan, and the alleged bribe was accepted near his residence.

The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau has initiated further investigation into the case.
