State chief electoral officer warns parties regarding controversial statements

Amid the Parshottam Rupala controversy, which has refused to subside, other BJP leaders have come under the ambit of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) by making controversial comments. 

The Election Commission has clarified that if restraint in speech is not maintained, action will be taken against the violator.

The state chief electoral officer (CEO) said, “We have come to know about controversial statements through social media, but if we receive any complaints regarding this, appropriate action will be taken in that case.”

In the recent controversial case of Junagadh, where district BJP president Kirit Patel remarked on the erstwhile king and his wife, the Election Commission has called for a report from the district election officer.

Additional chief electoral officer Kuldeep Arya said that the Election Commission has taken suo moto action in 19 cases against political party leaders and candidates.

Action will be taken after getting the details in any specific case. Action will be taken by checking whether any code of conduct has been violated in any public meeting or not.
