In yet another case of suicide involving a police personnel, a State Reserve Police (SRP) jawan was found dead near the New Secretariat complex in Gandhinagar late on Monday night, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Rajendrasinh Chandubha Gohil (49), a native of Bhavnagar district, who was currently posted with SRP Group 9 in Vadodara. According to officials, Gohil was on duty near Gate No. 3 of the New Secretariat when he allegedly died by suicide.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Gohil hanged himself from a tree near the gate around midnight. His body was discovered in a hanging position, prompting immediate intimation to the local police.

The body was subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated further investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident.

Officials said a handwritten note was recovered from the deceased. However, no individual has been held responsible for the extreme step in the note. Sources added that the note primarily contained details related to his residential property and authorised his wife to take decisions regarding his last rites.

The incident has once again brought focus on mental health concerns among police personnel, particularly those serving in demanding conditions.

Further investigation is underway.
