Six senior IPS officers 'stuck' at Police Bhavan as posting delays continue in Gujarat

Six of the 10 senior IPS officers in Gujarat who have been awaiting postings since August 17, 2025, were appointed temporarily to different branches at Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar, according to an order issued by the state Home Department.
The officers, mostly of DIG rank, have been without regular assignments for over six months. The latest order assigns them to various wings, though without granting full-fledged charge.
As per the notification, Tarun Duggal has been attached to CID Crime, Chaitanya Mandlik to Police Reforms, R T Susara to Technical Services, Sudha Pandey and Sujata Majumdar to the Police Training Department, and Mayur Patil (SP rank) to the Law and Order Branch.
The development comes amid pending decisions on the creation of a new police commissionerate and an additional range in the state, proposals that were expected to accommodate recently promoted officers. However, no formal announcement has been made in this regard.
Several DIG and SP-level officers promoted in recent months continue to await regular postings. Sources said some of the officers had earlier met the state Home Minister to seek clarity on their assignments, but no decision followed.
Uncertainty has also persisted at the top of the state police hierarchy. Dr K L N Rao is currently serving as the in-charge Director General of Police (DGP). Dr Shamsher Singh, who is senior and has returned from central deputation, is yet to be assigned a permanent role. With his retirement due in about a month, no announcement has been made regarding his posting.
Police sources said it was rare for such a large number of DIG-level officers to remain without postings for an extended period. The temporary attachments have triggered discussions within the force over delays in filling key vacancies.
