Sarkhej police nab history-sheeter who posed as cop to rob woman of jewellery worth ₹40,000

The Sarkhej police on Tuesday arrested a 49-year-old man who posed as a police officer and forcibly robbed a woman of her gold ornaments. The accused, identified as Salimmiya Hussainmiya Rathod, was caught y the surveillance team of the Sarkhej police station.
According to police, the accused approached the victim, a 26-year-old school teacher, around 3.30 pm on March 30 in the parking area of her residential apartment at Akash Homes near Ujala Circle. The victim had just returned after meeting her fiancé at a restaurant in Jashodanagar.
As she was parking her vehicle, the accused, riding a black TVS Apache motorcycle without a number plate, intercepted her and falsely claimed to be a police officer. He told her that her fiancé had been arrested and began demanding money. When she refused, he threatened her and forcibly took a gold bracelet weighing 7.37 grams worth ₹30,000 and a gold ring weighing 2.5 grams worth ₹10,000 from her right hand.
Following the incident, the woman approached the Sarkhej police station and filed a complaint. A case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the matter was handed over to the surveillance team.
Acting on leads, the police apprehended the accused, a resident of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Society in Vatva. Rathod, who previously served with the State Reserve Police (SRP) from 1999 before resigning after nine years, has a long history of criminal activities across police stations in Ahmedabad and surrounding districts.
Police recovered the stolen jewellery and the motorcycle used in the crime, both cumulatively valued at ₹1.32 lakh. The accused has been linked to multiple offences, including robbery, impersonation, and extortion. His criminal record includes cases registered at police stations in Bapunagar, Naroda, Odhav, Amraiwadi, and Vejalpur, among others.
