Updated: Oct 14th, 2024
In one of Gujarat’s biggest drug busts, a joint operation between police in Delhi and Bharuch has led to the seizure of 518 kg cocaine — worth ₹5,000 crore — in Ankleshwar on October 13.
The raid at the Aavkar Drugs Pvt Ltd in Ankleshwar GIDC came after investigators discovered that the 770 kg cocaine seized in Delhi recently was manufactured there. Police have now arrested Avkar’s owner Ashwin Ramani and five others.
The cocaine seized in Ankleshwar, Bharuch, was being prepared for supply to Delhi and other cities across the country under the guise of pharmaceuticals, officials say.
The initial investigation has also uncovered connections to Dubai and the United Kingdom.
So far, in this case, the police have seized a total of 1,289 kg cocaine worth ₹13,000 crore and 40 kg of hybrid marijuana.
On October 1, the Delhi Police seized 560 kg cocaine and 40 kg hybrid marijuana. Following this, 208 kilograms of cocaine was seized from a shop in Ramesh Nagar, Delhi. The two seizures were cumulatively worth more than ₹7,500 crore in drugs, officials said.
Sunday’s raid at Avkar is not Ankleshwar’s first brush with law enforcement authorities over illicit drug production. Earlier, the Mumbai Narcotics Department had raided a factory near Ankleshwar’s Panoli GIDC, where MD (Mephedrone) drugs were being manufactured, and seized the material.
