Ranji player accused of another ₹5.27 lakh fraud

Updated: Mar 7th, 2024

Rishi Arothe, a Ranji player, is facing another complaint of fraud involving ₹5.27 lakh.

Earlier this month, Arothe was involved in the case of the special operations group (SOG) intercepting a cash amount of ₹1.39 cr at his home.

Now Mahendra Sanilal, a resident of Vejalpur village of Kalol taluka in Panchmahal district, filed a complaint at Raopura police station that his son Tushar joined cricket coaching at Moti Bagh Cricket Academy in Jan 2021 at a monthly fee of ₹2,150.

In January 2022, Arothe served as the bowling coach at the academy. He accompanied Tushar to a match at the Vadodara Cricket Academy (VCA) ground, and the duo became friends.

According to the complaint, Tushar also used to stay at Arothe’s house at times when it was late. It was around this time, Arothe told Tushar that an IPL (Indian Premier League) scouting event was taking place in Bengaluru, and that Tushar had a chance of making it big there.

Arothe asked ₹3 lakh for the coaching for the same, and promised that the fee would be refunded on completion of the coaching.

The complaint alleges that Sanilal paid ₹5.27 lakh to Rishi Arothe in total for the coaching. However, Arothe stopped showing up for coaching sessions from April 2022, and did not pick up calls made by Tushar.

He also claims that when he asked to return the fees, Arothe also threatened him.

₹1.39 cr found at Arothe residence

Earlier this month, the SOG seized ₹1.39 cr from Rishi Arothe’s house, when his father, Tushar Arothe, failed to justify the amount.

Tushar Arothe is a former coach of the women’s cricket team.

In 2019, he was caught by police during a raid conducted for allegedly carrying out betting in the city’s Alkapuri area.
