Rajkot LS constituency politics: Paresh Dhanani desires to contend against Rupala

Updated: Apr 10th, 2024

Clinching the opportunity of Parshottam Rupala’s backlash in Rajkot, Congress leader Paresh Dhanani has thrown his hat in the ring to contest the stalwart leader.

Dhanani, known for defeating Rupala in the 2002 Assembly elections in Amreli constituency, has come out to contest against Rupala in Rajkot.

Understanding caste politics

BJP leader Rupala, from the Kadva Patel community, has been the epicentre of a controversy where he irked the Kshatriya community through his derogatory remarks.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Dhanani, from the Leva Patel community, has decided to chip in for Lok Sabha elections from the Rajkot seat if the opposition party gives the nod.

However, Dhanani may only get the ticket for the Rajkot constituency if Rupala stays in the seat.

As of now, amid the backlash, Rupala has refused to back out of the game in Rajkot, and he will be filling out his candidature form on Apr 16.

Gujarat might witness one of the most significant instances of caste politics if two individuals from the Paatidar community contend against each other.
