Rajkot court hand death sentence to accused of sodomising 7-year-old in Atkot

In the rape case of a seven-year-old girl in Atkot taluka of Rajkot district, the court has found the accused guilty and awarded him the death penalty. Police arrested the accused and filed the chargesheet within 11 days.

Within 34 days of the arrest, the court convicted the accused, and on the 45th day, the court announced the death sentence.

On December 4, 2025, a seven-year-old girl from a labourer’s family was raped in Kanpar village of Atkot in Jasdan, sending shockwaves across the region. 

he accused, Ramsingh Tersingh, displayed extreme brutality by assaulting the child under a tree and inserting an iron rod into her private parts, causing severe injuries.

As the child screamed in pain, the accused fled the scene, leaving her in a critical condition. However, the girl was immediately rushed for medical treatment, which saved her life.

Following the incident, on December 8, police detained Ramsingh Tersingh on suspicion. The court granted his remand until 5 pm on December 15, 2025. During this period, police took the accused along to recover the iron rod used in the crime and to reconstruct the incident.

While at the accused’s house and nearby fields, the accused attacked police personnel with a sickle kept in his house. In response, police fired two rounds, injuring the accused in both legs. He was then shifted to a hospital for treatment. During the police action, the accused reportedly cried out, saying, “I made a mistake. I will never face Gujarat again. I will never come back to Gujarat.”

Taking the seriousness of the crime into account, investigating officers carried out an intensive probe. The accused’s mobile phone was seized, and call detail records (CDR) confirmed his presence in Kanpar village at the time of the incident. The iron rod recovered from the crime scene was found to have the child’s blood on it, which was confirmed during investigation. Hair samples recovered from the spot were also matched to the accused, Ramsingh Tersingh.

Police completed a detailed investigation and filed the chargesheet in court within 11 days. During the trial, the defence presented several arguments, but the prosecution countered them with strong evidence.
