Rajkot Congressman Indranil Rajguru announces retirement from politics

Senior Congress leader Indranil Rajguru has announced his retirement from politics, creating a stir in Rajkot’s political circles. The decision comes at a time when the party is actively preparing for candidate selection for the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
Rajguru has long been considered an influential leader in the Indian National Congress in Rajkot. He served in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation during the 2000-2005 term and in 2012 became the only Congress MLA from Rajkot after 1998. Whether it was the party’s rare electoral victories or internal disputes, Rajguru often remained at the center of key political developments.
Announcing his decision, Rajguru said he has spent many years actively serving society through public life and now wishes to focus on his personal interests and well-being.
For the past two months, he has stopped attending political meetings, party programs, and even social events such as weddings hosted by political leaders. He stated that he will no longer attend meetings or accept any position within the party.
However, he clarified that he will continue to assist party workers on a personal level despite stepping away from active politics.
It is noteworthy that the Rajkot Congress does not have its own office, and for years the party has been operating from an office owned by Rajguru near the Race Course area in Rajkot. According to the city Congress president, this arrangement will continue.
The announcement came just two days after the state Congress leadership announced the formation of various committees for upcoming local body elections.
Earlier, Rajguru had briefly switched sides and joined the Aam Aadmi Party with some supporters but returned to the Indian National Congress after a short period. At one point, when the Bharatiya Janata Party was attempting to break away Congress MLAs, some legislators were reportedly kept at Rajguru’s club to prevent defections.
