A controversy has erupted in Amreli after a letter allegedly addressed to BJP’s state general secretary accusing BJP MLA Kaushik Vekariya of extortion, alcohol-related misconduct, and offering positions to Congress-aligned leaders was circulated. The letter went viral on social media, and upon investigation, it was found that the letterhead was fake, leading to a police complaint.

In connection with this incident, the police focused their investigation on a young woman of the Patidar community working as a typist in the BJP leader’s office. People at large and political circles were outraged after the woman was presented alongside other accused individuals for a reconstruction of the case, with some suggesting that she was being portrayed as a major criminal.

In response to the growing anger in the case, a crucial meeting was held at Khodaldham, where Patidar leaders from Amreli decided to intervene. They called for the complaint against the typist to be withdrawn and for a report under section 169 (which deals with the release of an accused when there is insufficient evidence) to be presented.

During the investigation, BJP worker Manish Vaghasiya was also arrested, and both he and the typist were taken into custody. Later, as part of the case reconstruction, the police took the accused to the office, where they were paraded in public, leading to accusations that the typist was being unfairly defamed. This sparked widespread political unrest across Saurashtra.

A meeting with BJP MLA, MPs, and Patidar leaders was held in Amreli on Thursday , where everyone expressed support for the typist and emphasised that she should receive justice.

On Friday, a hearing regarding the bail application of the Patidar woman will be held in Sessions Court. The verdict is expected in the case.
