Patdi slap controversy: Police conduct under scrutiny, SP orders probe

A heated altercation at Patdi Government Hospital has triggered controversy and prompted a formal investigation after a video showing police allegedly slapping a youth went viral on social media.

The incident occurred when the body of a deceased school teacher, Rajendrabhai Jadav of Soladi Village Dhrangadhra, was brought to the hospital for post-mortem. 

Where his son and other relatives reportedly clashed with the on-duty doctor and hospital staff, using abusive language.

Following a call to the police, a team led by Patdi Police Inspector B C Chatralia arrived on site. According to officials, one of the youth appeared intoxicated and proceeded to misbehave with officers as well. During the confrontation, a video was recorded showing officers slapping the youth, which quickly circulated online and drew public criticism.

Taking note of the viral footage, Surendranagar District Superintendent of Police Dr Girishkumar Pandya confirmed that the individual was under the influence and had behaved inappropriately with both hospital and police personnel. He announced that the entire sequence of events  before and after the alleged assault  would be thoroughly investigated.

The inquiry has been handed over to Dhrangadhra DySP J D Purohit. Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken if any wrongdoing is found.
