Over 50,000 illegal construction plague Ahmedabad

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) estate department was once again found lagging behind with  more than 50,000 illegal construction projects across 48 wards of the city.

The state government implemented a scheme to regularise unauthorised construction by introducing the payment of impact fees in October 2022. 

However, in the last two years, a total of 50,480 applications have been received by the municipal corporation to regularise unauthorised constructions by paying impact fees.

Out of the applications received by the corporation, 28,463 are pending and 12,470 have been rejected.

Demolishing the iconic pols of Ahmedabad, many officials, with the support of political leaders, are building new commercial structures in the walled city.

Over 3,000 applications regarding parking

Out of the applications received by the municipal corporation to regularise unauthorised constructions, 3,042 were regarding the issue of parking.

Moreover, 15,125 applicants have not submitted enough documents. 3,738 applications have a different structure than the planned one. 280 applications are from before the cut-off date, and 229 applications are about construction outside the plot.

In 3,312 applications, the application is pending due to the lift and the heritage monument. 2,299 applications exist where the structural stability certificate has not been submitted, and 911 applications exist where the building control line certificate has not been submitted.
