Amid the uproar of Vadtal Swaminarayan saints involved in alleged sexual harassment, over 400 devotees on June 27 observed a protest and marched for a kilometre to the Nadiad district collectorate to submit an application.
In their application, they wrote, “All of us Haribhaktas belong to the Vadtal sect. We have our own constitution and all the devotees, monks, parshads, and commoners, are bound to follow these rules.”
They alleged that the monks may have taken the path of renunciation, but are not behaving like that, bringing the bad name for the community.
The letter submitted to the collectorate said, “The saints are not supposed to see women’s faces and talk with women and touch them. Despite the rules, they are harassing the girls of the sect. Under the pretext of gurukuls, they are harassing young/minor kids.”
The devotees protested with banners in their hands that called for saving the sect by getting rid of debauched saints.
