Over 13,000 agricultural plots turned into NA in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar in two years

More than 13,000 agricultural plots in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts have been converted into non-agricultural land in two years, the Gujarat Legislative Assembly was told.
The data revealed that a total of 13,127 agricultural plots were approved for conversion for residential, industrial and other development purposes during the period.
As both districts continue to expand with new infrastructure and development projects, land prices have increased significantly. At the same time, farmers have begun selling their farmland, citing low crop prices and inadequate support.
Figures disclosed during the assembly’s question-and-answer session state that authorities received 17,341 applications in Ahmedabad district and 9,450 in Gandhinagar district seeking permission to convert agricultural land to non-agricultural use.
Of these, 9,070 applications were approved in Ahmedabad district, while 4,097 were cleared in Gandhinagar, resulting in the conversion of 13,127 land parcels.
In Ahmedabad district, the highest number of conversions was recorded in Sanand, where 2,409 agricultural plots were converted, largely due to the presence of industrial projects, including the proposed Gujarat Semiconductor Hub.
Similarly, 1,220 plots in Dholera were converted into non-agricultural land, driven by development initiatives linked to the Dholera Special Investment Region.
In Gandhinagar district, the highest number of approvals for land conversion came from Gandhinagar city itself, where 2,274 applications were approved, the data showed.
