Opposition parties took a jibe at BJP MLA Arvind Patel from the Dharampur Assembly constituency after he raised the issue in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly session of not getting a ticket for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

The issue triggered sharp reactions from opposition members, including those from Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.

Congress MLA Imran Khedawala criticised the development, saying it was unfortunate that match tickets were being discussed in the Assembly instead of public issues.

“There is more discussion about match tickets in the Assembly than about the problems faced by the public. It seems strange when a BJP MLA raises personal demands instead of people’s concerns,” Khedawala said.

AAP MLA Gopal Italia also criticised the government, saying the Assembly operates at significant public expense and should prioritise citizens’ issues.

“I say this with regret that the Assembly runs at the cost of crores of rupees. The public expects discussion on their issues. Yet when a BJP MLA raises the matter of not getting match tickets, the Agriculture Minister assures that tickets will be arranged for all members at the next cricket match,” Italia said.

He further questioned why the same urgency was not shown for problems faced by ordinary citizens, citing issues such as access to education, healthcare and public transport.

The exchange led to heated debate in the House, with opposition members accusing the government of ignoring key public concerns while focusing on trivial matters.
