Old rivalry sparks violent attack in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar, vehicles vandalised

Once again, the menace of anti-social elements has surfaced in the eastern part of Ahmedabad, triggering panic in a residential locality. In the Bapunagar area, a group of persons allegedly unleashed terror in a chawl over an old rivalry, assaulting a senior citizen, vandalising vehicles and issuing death threats, just days ahead of the Uttarayan festival.
According to the police, the incident took place at Ramdevnagar chawl, located opposite Gajanand Estate in Bapunagar. A 60-year-old retired man, Ramkishor Vikramsingh Sikarwar, has lodged a complaint in this regard. He lives in the chawl with his family and is leading a retired life.
As per the complaint, on Sunday evening, Ramkishor was standing near his house when a local resident, identified as Atul alias Bholu, along with three unidentified associates, allegedly attacked him. The accused reportedly beat the elderly man with fists and kicks, threw him to the ground and threatened to kill him, creating fear among residents.
Preliminary information suggests that the attack was a fallout of a dispute that took place around six months ago. At that time, a verbal altercation between Ramkishor and Atul had led to cross police complaints. Bearing a grudge over the incident, the accused allegedly carried out the assault.
At the time of the attack, Ramkishor’s two sons were flying kites on the terrace, while his wife was sitting outside the house. The accused allegedly arrived armed with sharp weapons, including meat cleavers, abused the family and waved the weapons in the air to intimidate locals.
The attackers also damaged two motorcycles parked near the house by striking them with sharp weapons, causing an estimated loss of around ₹5,000. However, upon receiving a call, a police team rushed to the spot, following which the accused fled the scene.
Police have registered an offence and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the accused. Further investigation into the case is underway.
