Old pension scheme: Govt employees protest at Gandhinagar secretariat
Gujarat government employees, including teachers, health workers, secretariat employees, and non-secretariat employees, had joined the movement
Amid the ongoing heated row among state government employees over the old pension scheme, after the ‘chalk down, pen down’ strike, government employees held a demonstration at the Sachivalay.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, thousands of Gujarat government employees affiliated with employee unions and federations demanded the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) at gate number 1 of the state secretariat in the capital city.
Gujarat government employees, including teachers, health workers, secretariat employees, and non-secretariat employees, had joined the movement.
Gandhinagar police and other agencies rushed to the spot and closed the gate of the secretariat to restrict the crowd from entering the building.
Security has been amped up at the premises since the protest. The police also detained around 500 protestors at the gate of the old secretariat.
The detainees were sent to the Gujarat Police Academy in Karai, the office of the deputy superintendent of police (DSP), and the Sector-21 police station.
Days ago, despite all the government employees going on a chalk-down, pen-down strike, there was no response from the government.
Apart from OPS, the employees also demanded the discontinuation of the fixed salary scheme and the grievances with the government.
