Navy, BSF discover 20 kg drugs near Kutch’s Koteshwar

Updated: Aug 18th, 2024

Two bags containing 20 kg of drugs were found at Kundibet in Kutch's Lakhpat taluka near Koteshwar in Gujarat.

During a patrol, the Navy and Border Security Force (BSF) found two unclaimed bags filled with drugs, believed to be of Afghan origin.

The exact weight and value of the seized drugs will be confirmed once the drugs are handed over to the Narayan Sarovar police.

It is believed that these packets were thrown into the sea from across the border and eventually washed ashore near Koteshwar in Kutch.

Similar unclaimed drug packets have previously been found along the coastline from Koteshwar to Mandvi.

According to sources, from May 15 to Aug 15, stronger ocean currents in Gujarat halted fishing activities, providing an opportunity for drug mafias to drop drug packets into the sea.

These packets are carried by the currents to specific areas along the 1600 km coastline of Kutch, Saurashtra, and South Gujarat. Although it may require searching within a 50 to 100 km area, the drugs consistently land in certain locations.

When the sea calms and fishing resumes, local operatives retrieve the packets and deliver them to designated individuals. Despite seizures of drugs worth crores this year, the full extent of this smuggling network remains undiscovered.
