Another corrupt official’s deeds have tarnished the image of the state’s police department. A police inspector (PI) deployed in Navsari was caught extorting an iPhone from a light diesel oil (LDO) merchant, in exchange for smoothly letting them run their business.
Dinesh Kubawat, a PI at Bilimora Dholai Marine Police at Dholai port, issued licences to boat owners to trade LDO.
However, Kubawat summoned one of the boat owners to the police station and demanded original documents. He also placed a condition of offering him commission if he wished to continue his retail LDO trading.
He demanded the latest iPhone 16 Pro worth ₹1.45 lakh from him and threatened to shut his business if his demand was not met.
The boat owner, unwilling to surrender to PI Kubawat’s condition, went up to the Navsari Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and lodged a complaint against the tainted cop.
Over this complaint, Navsari ACB PI B D Rathwa set up a trap at the police station and caught Kubawat taking the iPhone red-handed.
