Monsoon begins strong: Early showers in Gujarat account for over 10% of season’s rain

Late June, normally considered the beginning of monsoon in Gujarat, has been a relatively strong downpour in the state. Though IMD had earlier predicted a slightly above the average monsoon, the state has already received 10.46% of rainfall by June 18.
Over 100 talukas of Gujarat have witnessed rainfall between 51 mm and 125 mm, and 39 talukas have received rainfall between 126 mm and 250 mm. As many as 15 talukas received rains over 251 mm.

No taluka of Gujarat has received more than 500 mm rain.
The Saurashtra region has been subjected to most rains, with a total of 143.40 mm rain this monsoon, accounting for 19.18% of seasonal average. In the last 24 hours, the region has been hit by 32.51 mm rain.
However, in the last 24 hours, it was Kutch that received the most amount of rain with 51.20 mm between June 17 and June 18. Kutch also has witnessed 17.55% of seasonal rain even before the end of June. South Gujarat has been the driest, with only 5.45% of rains this season.
Total 227 villages in 33 districts of the state have received rainfall in the last 24 hours. The state's average rainfall in the last 24 hours is 22.67 mm.
