Mizoram’s brain dead youth saves four individuals by organ donation in Ahmedabad

A Mizoram man who lost his life in an accident in Ahmedabad saved four other lives through organ donation in an act of inspiration. The 24-year-old was visiting his sister in Ahmedabad when the unfortunate incident happened, however, his mother’s decision changed many lives afterwards.

Moingsuha, hailing Tuipuibari village in the Mamit district of Mizoram, had come to Ahmedabad to visit his sister, but he met with an accident at Ahmedabad’s Memco Bridge on April 25. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital with severe head injuries, where he was declared brain dead on April 28.

After his demise, the family of the young boy was in grief and pain but at the same time his mother took the courageous decision to donate her son’s organs.

Through her decision, Moingsuha’s heart, liver, and both the kidneys were retrieved. Following the mother's grant four patients lives were saved through a heart transplant at UN Mehta Hospital and liver and kidney transplants at the Kidney Hospital within the Civil Medicity campus. 

Dr Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, said that he considers this organ donation a milestone and the family's decision proves that organ donation awareness is spreading among people. 

On this organ donation, Civil hospital said that this donation marks the 238th organ donation in the hospital. Till now, the hospital received 1026 organs including 238 tissues, 212 liver, 439 kidney, 76 heart, 34 lungs, 6 hands, 2 small intestines, 194 eyes, and 44 skin implants, which have saved approximately 766 patients lives, as per the data released by Civil Hospital.
