The construction of the semiconductor and chipset plant by US-based firm Micron in Sanand is moving towards completion. According to sources close to the project, production is likely to start operating in December 2025 or January 2026.

The plant was approved in June 2023 as the first project in the semiconductor mission launched by the Central government, leading to Micron’s investment of ₹22,516 crore. It has been learned that work is underway to set up the cleanroom of the unit, which is spread over an area of 5 lakh square feet. The assembly, testing and packaging (ATMP) of chipsets will take place here.

The plant will manufacture chips for random access memory (RAM) and non-volatile memory (NAND).

Tata Group is constructing the first phase of the project, and about 70% of the construction has been completed. After this process is completed, Tata will hand over the site, and production can ensue.

Earlier, this plant was to be completed in 2024; however, due to some delays, it will begin at the end of this year.

Sources also added that the company has started inviting bids for the construction of the second phase.
