A student at Patan GMERS in Gujarat died after 16 seniors allegedly called 12 juniors to their room and forced them to stand for hours.
Anil Patel, a resident of Dhrangadra, who recently took admission to Patan GMERS (Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society), was summoned by the seniors along with 11 other juniors to their room. There, the seniors kept asking them questions and ragging them.
Patel was made to stand for three straight hours, after which he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital afterwards, but was declared dead..
The family of the deceased was informed, and his father, Raghav Patel, filed a formal complaint against the 16 senior students involved in the ragging.
Previously, incidents of ragging have also been reported at Patan GMERS College. In 2014, a serious case of ragging was exposed when MBBS seniors had called 18 juniors to a room, asked them to remove their clothes, and forced them to perform inappropriate acts against their will.
The anti-ragging committee had suspended 8 seniors then and filed police complaints against them.
