The controversy ignited by BJP’s Lok Sabha election candidate from Rajkot, Parshottam Rupala, with his comments on the Kshatriya clan, refusing to die down. Today, the Karni Sena president Mahipal Singh Makrana was detained by the police today in Ahmedabad’s Bopal.

On Apr 5, Rajput women decided to opt for self-immolation (Johar) outside the BJP headquarters ‘Kamalam’ today if their demands are not met.

Police security was amped up and the authorities reportedly also planned ‘house arrests’ to control the situation.

Kshatriya women Pragnaba Zala and Chetnaba Jadeja in Ahmedabad said, “Rupala has insulted women of the Kshatriya community, it will have consequences.”

Addressing the reporters, Mahipal Singh Makrana stated that everyone has self-respect, whether a Dalit or a Rajput. The Kshatriya women have been forced to perform ‘johar’, so we will have to come forward. The time for convincing is long gone.

We have decided. We will go to Rajkot and hold gatherings wherever Rupala is popular. If it would have been about me, I would have forgiven them, but this is about our sisters and daughters. We have decided on our motto- Kamal nu phool, amari bhul (our mistake, the lotus flower). We will fight till last if it is about self-respect, said Makrana.

Makrana also plans to go and raise the Kshatriya-Rupala controversy in 24 states of the country. We will put up banners to boycott BJP, Makrana said.

He also stated that had the community not been divided into two, we would have passed an ultimatum long ago.
