In a surprising turn of events, former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel has withdrawn his candidature from the Mehsana seat.

With the Lok Sabha elections just a few months away, the BJP announced the names of 195 candidates on Mar 2. Names of 15 candidates out of a total of 26 seats in Gujarat were also announced.

Nitin Patel posted on his Facebook page and wrote, “I filed my candidature as a BJP candidate for Mehsana Lok Sabha seat for some reasons. Candidates for 15 Lok Sabha seats of the state have been declared on Saturday and the selection process of Mehsana Lok Sabha candidate is still going on.”

“I withdrew my candidature as a BJP candidate. And I pray to God that Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister for the third time in a row to increase the prestige of India in the whole world and to attain the supreme glory of Mother India,” read the post.

It may be mentioned that the name of the candidate for the other 11 seats of Gujarat can be announced in a week. The names of the candidates for Bhavnagar, Amreli, Surendranagar, and Junagadh seats have not been announced.

Earlier, Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, who was nominated for Asansol (West Bengal) by the BJP, withdrew from his candidature in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
