Lok Adalat in Gujarat settles 5.44 lakh cases involving compensations of ₹1,300 cr
Under the guidance of Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Sunita Agarwal, various Lok Adalats were organised in district-taluka courts by the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority and District Coordination Committees to resolve sitting disposal and pre-litigation cases.
A total disposal of more than 5,44,113 cases was achieved during these hearings. Among these cases, 2,46,867 cases are pending in court and 2,97,246 are pre-litigation cases.
A total of around ₹1,300 crore of compensation and amicable settlement was carried out. 4,913 cases pending for more than ten years were disposed of.
For the third time, more than 5.25 lakh cases have been disposed of, and a significant increase in compensation amount has been reported.
During the National Lok Adalat held across Gujarat today, Justice Biren Vaishnav and Justice Bhargava D Karia of the Gujarat High Court in the presence of dignitaries including Member Secretary Rahul Trivedi of the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority presented compensation checks to the victims and dependents in various MACT - Motor Accident Claims Tribunals - cases.
Gujarat Bar Council Finance Committee Chairman Anil Kella said that in today’s National Lok Adalat, the largest number of cases in the state were disposed of at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court located at Ghi Kanta.
