Kshatriya community firm on protests against Rupala, BJP undeterred
Updated: Apr 19th, 2024
Though the 2024 Lok Sabha kicked off today, the turmoil that stemmed from Saurashtra after Parshottam Rupala’s remarks on the Kshatriya community refuses to back off.
As decided in the Rajput convention on Apr 14, the Kshatriyas gave Rupala an ultimatum to withdraw his Lok Sabha form until this evening (Apr 19).
However, the BJP seems nowhere close to taking that decision, as union home minister Amit Shah said in one of his speeches that Rupala has apologised many times for his mistake and Kshatriyas will forgive him. Shah has hinted at the BJP’s firm hold on Rupala for the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile, the Kshatriya community has scheduled a meeting today in Gota, Ahmedabad, at around 3 p.m. regarding the next move after the ultimatum.
BJP’s caste strategy
While Kshatriyas refuse to back off from protesting against the BJP in Gujarat, the party has applied a new strategy wherein, during campaigning, they are deploying Kshatriya police officers on duty.
So, if the senior police officer is a Kshatriya, it will be easier to pacify Kshatriya community protestors.
The BJP is facing a major backlash in areas including Bhavnagar and Idar. But the party has ‘plans’ as the Kshatriya cops get it all covered to placate the protesting crowd.
