Junagadh BJP offices without BU permissions get notice after 7 years
Updated: Sep 21st, 2024
The controversy over illegal constructions by the BJP in Junagadh district has now intensified after the letter by former BJP minister Jawahar Chavda, pointing out the ‘height of lust for power’ in the party ranks.
Despite the district BJP office being operational for seven years, it still lacks a Building Usage (BU) certificate, and a notice has been issued for the same.
Regarding the matter, Senior Town Planning Officer (STPO) Bipin Gamit stated that the district BJP office near Khamdhrol Chokdi does not have a BU certificate and a notice has been issued for action as per the rules. When asked about the city BJP office's lack of a BU certificate, Gamit responded that it had not yet come to his attention.
Today, another revelation surfaced that the recently inaugurated city BJP office, which was opened by C R Patil, also lacks a BU certificate.
Former BJP minister Chavda has recently begun exposing the violations by BJP leaders and their office.
He has alleged that conditions were breached during the construction of the office, specifically that the required 24-metre margin was not maintained.
In response, the district BJP president indirectly admitted that the construction would be regularised by paying an impact fee. This response has raised many questions, and further investigations have led to more revelations.
The Junagadh district BJP office, located near Khamdhrol Chokdi, was inaugurated on August 20, 2017, by then-Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Since its construction, the office has not received a BU certificate, nor has there been any request for one. For the past seven years, the BJP office has been functioning without a BU certificate.
The municipal corporation is facing criticism for its inaction regarding the BJP office, which reportedly lacks a Building Use (BU) certificate.
Despite taking action against other constructions for similar violations, no measures have been taken against the BJP office. The issue came to light after Chavda raised concerns, prompting the authorities to initiate an investigation. However, there appears to be hesitance in taking decisive action, raising questions about bias in enforcement.
As per the regulations, the district BJP office was required to leave a 24-metre margin from the centerline of the National Highway, but this was not done, making it impossible to grant a BU certificate as per the rules.
In contrast, a nearby commercial building has left a 24-metre margin from the road, as visible on Google Maps and confirmed on-site. However, the distance between the BJP's Deendayal Bhavan and the road is just two or 3 metres.
On the other hand, the city BJP office, located from Zanzarda Chokdi to Shanteshwar Road, was constructed at a cost of crores and inaugurated by BJP state president C R Patil on March 31, 2024. Even after six months, this office has yet to receive a BU certificate.
